Acid Reflux Diet – Got Milk?
This blew my mind, as a kid I used to do
this thinking it would fix my problem.
Editor.
One thought, that was prevalent, involved Milk as a potential
solution. In fact, drinking milk will not help stop acid
reflux symptoms. Eventually this thought morphed into believing
that milk actually calms the burning sensation of the esophagus.
The truth is, Milk temporaily has cooling properties as it goes
down but that is it. Upon reaching the stomach, it actually
generates more acid. So eating citrus and spicy foods does not
necessarily cause acid reflux. The REAL Suspect is overeating and
possibly eating too fast. People who actually need a acid reflux
diet also needs to eat smaller meals. Frequency, can also be
factored in to assist in the hunger urges. Eating fruit or
spicy foods as well as drinking milk can still be enjoyed but
moderation should be the major factor.
One fruit / vegetable (depending on how you categorize these)
that should be avoided are tomatos and related recipes that are
heavy with tomatos. This fruit is already high in acid which
can trigger a reflux episode. This same thought should be applied
to foods that contain garlic and onions. Even though these foods
can be enjoyed in small amounts, it is atill best to limit their
intake. Unfortunately, Chocolate and fried foods also fall into
this same category. The reason is that these foods typically are
considered to be heavy in the digestive system and thus take up
more room in the stomach. Remember, the more food that is placed in
the stomach, means more acid is needed to digest it. Also, if
the stomach is over-filled, the acid in the stomach could possibly
be pushed up due to heavier objects in the stomach. That is
called displacement.
Do I Have The Traditional Acid Reflux Symptoms?
The most prevalent symptom for acid reflux is that burning
sensation we called heartburn. Usually occurring after eating a
meal or drinking a drink which too much acid content. These are
primary acid reflux symptoms which can be worse for the first
couple of hours after a meal. Most people confuse it for chest pain
when they first encounter it. It most be noted that not all
people with acid reflux will experience this symptom.
Acid reflux symptoms include having a dry cough that lingers,
waking up in the morning with hoarseness, and a uneasy feeling that
food is not going down. More often than not these symptoms
tend to get severe enough to start vomitting. For most normal
persons, when the esophagus stays agitated long enough, it will
bring on esophageal spasms which have been mistaken for a heart
related condition.
Untreated, acid reflux symptoms can cause a sleepless night and
cause more damage to the esophagus. Keep in mind that prescription
medication for this disease is typically very expensive but there
are medications that attest they can heal the damage which the
esophagus has sustained.
